Students often continue to develop their skills from sixth grade by writing and reading lengthier, more challenging books and essays in seventh grade. Through their preparation for 8th grade, where they will solidify and advance their skills, they will be better equipped to succeed in high school. In the seventh grade, students refine their abilities to critically examine the texts they read and support their analyses with textual evidence. Particularly, 7th graders learn how to read texts critically and use textual information to build ideas, analyze, and draw conclusions. Without the added pressure of adjusting to the new middle school setting, seventh graders are better equipped to concentrate on developing the abilities they started to build in sixth grade. In order to study more freely and plan their time and schedules with less (but still some) direction, pupils are expected to have adapted to middle school life by the seventh grade.
